PlanetRomeo (Pr) is set to go head-on (pun intended) against Grindr with the launch of its first ever official app on Android (version 2 on iOS). Grindr was quite revolutionary in its launch three years ago as it gave 'gaydar' a physical manifestation in the form of mobile devices using gps.
Many other developers followed suit and tried to get a piece of the pie. Some focused on a specific demography in order to minimize competition with the pioneer (see Growlr).
Pr App's launch today was timely with Grindr's decline in many countries because of its supposed lack of innovation and support (as seen on its recent ratings and comments on the app stores).
Pr introduced Radar in its web browser version a few months ago. The plan was to eventually go mobile and gps. Some of the advantages of Pr over Grindr are its less limitations, free full version, and changeable location.
