No Evil Grindr

Grindr 2.0 is out as promised. Actually, a month earlier than expected. There was major overhaul of the app UI. It feels intuitive on first try. Grindr is sloppy no more! It now allows you to crop a pic just before sending. Also, sent pics are saved for future use making the experience even faster. Pics are also with Grindr watermark when received.

Grindr is trying to reconquest its pioneer status by integrating innovations of several latter gay dating apps. There is now a Chat Box where all your messages are centralized. This is what made me use Hornet. Grindr's battery share will surely increase.

There is also Grindr Tribes. You can choose which tribe to join like Bear, Daddy, Twink, and lots more. Then you can filter which tribe you want to see. This seem to target users of specialized GDAs to come back to the original.

I still hate the large display pic thumbnails as I am using a tablet. They even made the thumbnail larger! I wish for smaller thumbnails but I am unsure if the smartphone users might be affected. There could be a separate tablet version but it will just drag the app updating.

Maybe an option for smaller thumbnails will also appeal to large screen smartphone users. It is not bad to be discreet in public when using apps that show lots of skin. Also, multiple display pics are a plus.

Quite interesting is a new Looking For option - Right Now - aside from Chat, Date, and Relationship. There is still no notifications, or is it just me? And please do not indicate South Asian unless you have major Indian descent.
