Trends 2012: BJ and BS

Before anything else, Buko Shake and Buko Juice.
These two are nothing new really but they did trend well this past year.

I won't deny it. I love BJ!
Sweetened is good but I like the aftertaste of the unsweetened variety better.
I love it on the spot, in the nut but a cool one won't be bad after a tiredly day in the sun.

The Philippines is the number one exporter of coconut in the whole world.
It brought $ 1.96 billion into the national economy in 2011 alone.
Coco milk and coco oil were promising exports.
In 2012, coco water was bid to be the next sunshine industry.
Coco water has become popular in the US as a health drink selling for $ 4 a liter tetrapack.
Compare that to Php 80 for the same item in a Manila supermarket.
Or Php 20 a shell that contains about half a liter of coco water.

High demand for coco products abroad jacked up the price of buko but it didn't stop the proliferation of buko shake carts.
It has become the franchise cart craze of 2012.
It's has pureed coco meat, evaporated milk, and crushed ice.
And sure is refreshing. Half-sugar please!
It's not too late to try one, the coldness of the winter solstice haven't reached us yet.

Watch out for the next Trends 2012
